During the first quarter of 2026, Amie Holt Care Center was recognized as the largest nursing home in Johnson County, based on information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Records indicate the facility had 50 available beds—seven more than Johnson County’s average at the time. The center served an average of 40 residents over the quarter.

Amie Holt Care Center received an overall CMS rating of 5 out of 5, outperforming the average Wyoming rating of 3 for nursing homes.

Wyoming Veterans’ Skilled Nursing Facility ranked second among Johnson County nursing homes in the same period, offering 36 beds.

Amie Holt Care Center reported no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, Johnson County, Wyoming, had two publicly operated nursing homes.

U.S. Census Bureau data shows steady growth in the nation’s older population as the number of younger individuals decreases. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. The older adult population has increased substantially over the century, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

Research published in 2021 indicates that almost half of this age group—or about 28 million people—could need long-term care services and support. The study also projects that more than a third may ultimately require nursing home services.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
