Congressman August Pfluger, the Chairman-elect of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), has appointed Congresswoman Harriet Hageman to chair the Article One Task Force. This task force is tasked with restoring Congress's constitutional authority and addressing executive overreach, following the Supreme Court's decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, which overturned the Chevron deference doctrine.

"I am pleased to announce Representative Harriet Hageman as the new Chair of the Article I Task Force," stated RSC Chairman-elect Pfluger. "An experienced litigator of over thirty years, Harriet has dedicated her life to standing up to federal overreach and fighting back against the unelected bureaucratic state. Her expertise in protecting private property and water rights makes her the ideal choice to lead the fight in restoring our Constitutional powers. I look forward to working alongside Congresswoman Hageman to advance our conservative agenda with President Trump in the White House."

The Article One Task Force aims to reassert Congress's constitutional role, combat executive overreach, and ensure administrative agencies are accountable. The task force will work on legislation that limits agency rulemaking and prevents a regulatory state operating beyond congressional intent.

The task force will also support implementing the Loper Mandate decision, which reduces courts' deference to federal agencies' interpretations of statutes involving significant economic or political issues. It seeks to integrate Article One principles into legislative practices, curbing unelected bureaucrats' power and reinforcing Congress’s legislative responsibilities.

“I am grateful to Chairman Pfluger for placing his trust in me to lead the Article One Task Force," said Congresswoman Hageman. "We are now on the offensive, and the unelected bureaucrats who have abused their power for far too long should be on notice. The Supreme Court’s Loper decision returns the power to legislate where it rightfully belongs, with the legislative branch. We will work to advance policies that restore the balance of power to Congress.”

Article One of the U.S. Constitution grants Congress exclusive legislative power as a safeguard against concentrated power in any government branch or unelected bureaucracy. Congresswoman Hageman has focused her legal career on combating federal agency overreach and protecting citizens from unlawful regulatory actions.

The Supreme Court's recent decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo is seen as a victory for this cause by reinforcing that courts should not defer automatically to federal agencies when interpreting laws.

As chair of the Article One Task Force, Congresswoman Hageman will lead efforts for legislative reforms that empower Congress, limit executive overreach, and restore accountability in rulemaking processes.
