Yesterday, during a Congressional hearing, Congresswoman Harriet Hageman criticized the Biden administration's use of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. She argued that it targets peaceful pro-life advocates and announced her support for legislation to repeal the act. This effort is part of her ongoing advocacy for life, alongside Congressman Chip Roy.
Hageman claims that the Department of Justice under President Biden prioritizes prosecuting non-violent pro-life advocates while neglecting to protect religious institutions from harassment and violence. According to Hageman, this selective enforcement allows antisemitic supporters to attack Jewish community centers without repercussions, undermining fairness and religious liberty.
“Those who hate wisdom love death, and the Biden-Harris pro-abortion agenda only confirms that adage. They have pursued this anti-life agenda through the weaponization of the FACE Act to chip away at religious freedom,” said Congresswoman Hageman. “They have empowered radical anti-life extremists to vandalize religious institutions without consequence, while at the same time targeting peaceful pro-life advocates. This double standard is an outrageous abuse of power. I am on the side of life and the American people, and I will keep fighting to restore fairness, justice, and the rule of law. I’m proud to join my pro-life colleagues in co-sponsoring legislation to repeal the FACE Act.”
The FACE Act was established in 1994 with intentions to protect access equally for reproductive health facilities and places of worship. However, Hageman argues that under Biden's leadership, it has been used against those praying outside abortion clinics while ignoring violence against pro-life organizations.
Highlighting cases like Paul Vaughn's arrest for praying outside a clinic as examples of bias and misuse of power by the administration, Hageman emphasized her commitment to defending religious freedom and holding the Department accountable.
