Congresswoman Harriet Hageman has expressed her support for the America Relief Act of 2024, a new Continuing Resolution (CR) aimed at addressing critical issues for American citizens. The act represents a shift from its original form, which was described as an omnibus package filled with spending initiatives aligned with Democrat-led agendas. Through collaboration with House Republicans, these elements were removed to focus on reducing government waste and rolling back regulations.
The revised bill is seen as an opportunity for Republicans to manage national spending more effectively and address policies important to American families. It also prevents the expiration of the Farm Bill and allocates over $100 million in relief for Wyoming's farmers and ranchers affected by wildfires and droughts.
Congresswoman Hageman remarked, “I refused to support the first version of this bill, and so did many of my colleagues, because it looked more like a liberal’s Christmas list than a continuing resolution. It was a bloated Democrat-driven spending spree with leftist political agendas at its core. We eliminated wasteful provisions to keep the government open without caving to those boondoggles. This is a win for Wyoming, and a win for the American people."
The initial version of the CR included provisions such as reauthorization of the Global Engagement Center, associated with promoting censorship on social media, along with significant funding for progressive projects. These elements have been removed in the final America Relief Act of 2024.
