The House of Representatives has passed a bill aimed at safeguarding women's sports. The legislation, known as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025, was introduced by Representative Greg Steube and is co-sponsored by Congresswoman Harriet Hageman. It seeks to establish definitions for sports eligibility based on biological sex at birth and would withhold federal funding from organizations that do not comply.

The bill comes amid concerns from some lawmakers about the Biden administration's interpretation of Title IX, which they argue could allow men and boys to compete in women's sports. This, they claim, threatens the integrity of female athletics.

Congresswoman Hageman expressed her support for the bill: “As one of the first generations to benefit from Title IX, I want all girls to have the same opportunity to safely participate in athletics. The ideological war on womanhood completely disregards biological facts, putting our daughters in danger on courts, fields, and tracks. This isn’t progress—it’s insanity."

She further criticized what she described as "the left’s anti-woman agenda," saying it undermines decades of progress for female athletes. According to Hageman, "The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act is a commonsense solution to ensure fairness, safety, and respect for biological realities."

With Republican majorities in Congress and backing from President Trump, the legislation aims to defend women's rights in sports across the country.
