Congresswoman Harriet Hageman has joined a call for the suspension of the United States Postal Service's "Delivering for America" (DFA) plan. The initiative, led by Congressman Jack Bergman, is directed at President Trump and seeks to address the adverse effects of the DFA plan on rural and remote communities.

Hageman and her colleagues have voiced concerns about significant delays and inefficiencies caused by key elements of the DFA plan. These issues are particularly impactful for rural Americans who rely on USPS for essential services.

“USPS has a fundamental duty to serve all Americans, including and especially those in rural and remote areas,” said Rep. Hageman. “Unfortunately, the so-called ‘Delivering for America’ plan has resulted in substantial delays for U.S. citizens. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy failed in his responsibilities, creating unnecessary disruptions that hurt the very communities that depend on the USPS the most. We must hold the USPS accountable and ensure Wyoming receives the same reliable mail service as everyone else.”

The DFA plan was introduced in 2021 as a 10-year strategy aimed at addressing financial challenges and operational inefficiencies within USPS. However, its implementation through facility consolidations and the Regional Transportation Optimization (RTO) initiative is seen as disproportionately affecting rural areas.

Centralizing smaller processing facilities into regional hubs has led to mail being transported longer distances before local delivery, significantly delaying timelines. The RTO initiative eliminated afternoon mail collection at post offices more than 50 miles from regional hubs, worsening service performance in rural regions and increasing costs by over $7.1 million according to a report from the USPS Inspector General.
