Congresswoman Harriet Hageman has taken legislative steps to address federal regulations impacting Wyoming's energy sector. She reintroduced three bills aimed at easing administrative burdens on the state's energy and mineral industries.
The first piece of legislation targets the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), which Hageman claims is often used against Wyoming’s oil, gas, coal, and mineral sectors. This bill seeks to provide these industries with expedited regulatory relief similar to other favored sectors in Washington, D.C.
A second bill addresses fees under the Mineral Leasing Act. It aims to shield Wyoming operators from paying for leases that the Bureau of Land Management does not issue. The third bill offers a means for citizens and companies to challenge decisions by the Department of Interior’s administrative law courts.
“Energy independence is the backbone of America, and energy production is the backbone of Wyoming,” stated Rep. Hageman. “I am reintroducing these bills that are aligned with President Trump’s vision for American energy dominance and to begin reversing the national energy emergency created by the former Biden Administration’s relentless attacks on our legacy industries.”
Hageman emphasized her experience as an attorney in witnessing how federal regulations can negatively impact families and businesses in Wyoming. She expressed hope that these bills would restore fairness and empower local communities through their elected officials.
