Helen Wessler Play Pool Closed; Future City Park with Aquatics Feature Planned

Helen

Due to mechanical equipment issues, the Helen Wessler Play Pool will not open this swim season.

Providing a safe swim environment for the community is a top priority and guided the Arlington Parks & Recreation Department when making the decision to permanently close this aquatics facility. Mechanical failures within the filtration system, which prevented the pool from passing inspections, were detected as staff were preparing the public pool at 2310 Greenway Street for the swim season.

Though the closure may be a disappointment for our swim patrons, we are excited to share that a new water amenity is in the works. This summer was already scheduled to be the final season at Helen Wessler Play Pool because of an upcoming land swap between the City of Arlington and the Arlington Independent School District. The swap will allow for a new school site as well as a future park that will feature an aquatic component for our residents to enjoy. We look forward to sharing more information about the community improvements, the park relocation and opportunities for community engagement during this process in the coming months.

Looking for another spot to cool off in the mean time? Please visit one of the City’s other nearby pools or splash pads, including Howard Moore Play Pool at 1999 Bever Blvd. or Brantley Hinshaw Splash Pad at 2121 Overbrook Dr. For a list of all City of Arlington pools and splash pads, and up-to-date information about hours of operation, visit the Parks and Recreation Department website, arlingtontx.gov/parks.

Arlington Parks & Recreation thanks the community for its understanding and wishes everyone a safe and healthy summer.
