Meet Laurie Helmrichs, registered nurse in the hospital’s Medical Surgical, or Med Surg unit. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Gillette College, and is currently working on her BSN, or Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Laurie has worked at CCH for a little over two years, but has been in ‘healthcare’ pretty much her whole life, through volunteering and providing care to people in some capacity.
Laurie was inspired to choose a career in healthcare by her grandmother, who experienced numerous strokes and lost the ability to speak and take care of herself. She was also inspired by her parents, who both worked in healthcare while Laurie was growing up.
“I love seeing our patients leave after being under our care and seeing them outside the hospital,” says Laurie. “They remember you and say, you were my nurse – thanks for your care.”
When asked what she likes most about working at CCH, Laurie says,” I feel honored to be a part of the great team we have on Med Surg. If it weren’t for the great support and resources of my co-workers, I would never be able to do my job.”
The CCH Med Surg unit provides care to adults who are hospitalized with a wide variety of conditions, including pneumonia, stroke and fractures. The team of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants also provide post-surgical care if the patient needs to stay in the hospital after surgery or a procedure.
When she’s not working, Laurie loves to spend time with her husband, kids and her dogs. Her hobbies include fishing and camping, gardening and cooking.
Thank you, Laurie, for taking great care of our patients every day at Campbell County Health. We appreciate all that you do.
