President Donald Trump has issued an executive order titled "Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry." This order is aimed at enhancing the coal industry, with an emphasis on Wyoming coal resources. Congresswoman Hageman, who has been an advocate for the state's coal sector, supports the President's decision. She co-chairs the Coal Caucus and has been active in proposing legislation to increase coal leasing in Wyoming's Powder River Basin.

In her statement, Rep. Hageman emphasized the significance of coal in future energy plans. She said, “Coal is the energy of the future – Wyoming understands that, and so does President Trump. This is yet another promise made and delivered from President Trump, and one which rightly recognizes that coal is key to powering the great American comeback." She criticized past policies under the Obama and Biden administrations as detrimental to Wyoming and the wider American power landscape. "Today is a win for Wyoming and a win for America," Hageman added.

The executive order lays out policies meant to maximize coal mining operations and encourage new projects. Measures include streamlining coal leasing, offering relief on royalty rates, promoting coal exports, designating metallurgical coal as a critical mineral, and expanding categorical exclusions for coal projects. This move builds on President Trump's previous efforts to protect coal power plants and counteract regulations imposed during the Biden administration.

Since her tenure began in 2023, Rep. Hageman has sought to reverse the Biden administration’s Buffalo RMP revision, lift the federal coal moratorium, and enforce the leasing of federal coal reserves. As a member of the Natural Resources Committee, she aims to incorporate coal policies from her bills and the executive order into the budget reconciliation process.
