Congresswoman Harriet Hageman has urged the Biden Administration to release the overdue Fall 2024 Unified Agenda of Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions. The document, which should have been published in October, is now two months late. This delay raises concerns about transparency and Congressional oversight during the presidential transition.
The Unified Agenda, required by Executive Order 12866, is a biannual publication outlining regulatory priorities for the administration. It offers insights to Congress, regulated industries, and the public about upcoming actions. "The Biden-Harris Administration’s failure to release the Fall Unified Agenda raises serious questions about what they are trying to hide from the American people," said Congresswoman Hageman. She emphasized that families, ranchers, and small business owners in Wyoming need this information to prepare for new regulations.
Hageman expressed concerns that withholding the agenda might hinder preparations for the Trump-Vance Administration's transition. She stated, "I urge the Biden Administration to follow the law, uphold the principles of transparent governance, and immediately release the Fall 2024 Unified Agenda."
Executive Order 12866 was established in 1993 to ensure regular publication of these agendas each spring and fall. The absence of this document affects regulated industries' ability to plan and comply with forthcoming regulations. With $1.7 trillion in new annual regulatory costs under President Biden's tenure, access to this agenda is crucial for incoming administrations.
Without it, Congress cannot effectively oversee unelected officials who might advance personal projects without accountability. The timely release of such documents is essential for maintaining transparency and ensuring an orderly transition of power.
