Boulder Police Make Swift Arrest in Overnight Gunfire

The Boulder Police Department has arrested a man for shooting a gun into the air in multiple locations in the city last night.

At 11:07 p.m. on Oct. 3, Dispatch began receiving reports of a shooting on Walnut Street. Shell casings were found in the area of 7th and Walnut streets and 11th and Lawry streets.

Officers flooded the area and spotted the suspect vehicle at 11:21 p.m. They conducted a high-risk traffic stop near 13th and Pennsylvania streets and took two adult males into custody without incident.

After further investigation, officers recovered a firearm and ammunition from the vehicle. They later charged Jacob Derolf, 22, with misdemeanor prohibited use of weapons, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and reckless driving.

At this time, detectives do not believe this incident is connected to the shooting on University Hill on Sunday.

As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
