The City of Arlington's Public Works Department has been awarded $957,000 in federal funding from the North Central Texas Council of Government’s (NCTCOG) Regional Transportation Council (RTC) to improve pedestrian mobility. These funds will be combined with a local match of $239,000 and used to construct improvements on Allen Avenue from Mayfield Road to Arbrook Boulevard.

The project is currently in a conceptual phase with construction estimated to begin in summer 2024.
In addition to improving the safety and comfort of pedestrians, projects awarded funding by the RTC reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.
This project is one of 13 projects selected from 33 applications from across Tarrant, Collins, Dallas, and Denton counties. Applications were evaluated based on their ability to implement the goals of NCTCOG’s Metropolitan Transportation Plan, including safety benefits, equity, access to major destinations, and project readiness.
This project aligns with the City Council’s priorities to Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods. Click here to learn more about current roadway and sidewalk improvement projects within the city.
