This week, Congresswoman Harriet Hageman and ten of her colleagues from the Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland. The letter, led by Representative Massie (R-KY), urges the Department of Justice not to obstruct the release of an Inspector General's report. This report examines the involvement of federal assets, particularly Confidential Human Sources (CHS), in the events that took place on January 6, 2021.
Congresswoman Hageman emphasized the importance of transparency regarding federal employees' roles in these events. She stated, "The American people deserve to know those federal employees involved in formulating and carrying out the events on January 6th." She expressed concern about what she perceives as a targeted approach by federal agencies towards conservatives and highlighted the need for truthfulness.
Hageman also criticized what she sees as a delay in providing answers to the public nearly four years after January 6th. She remarked, "It is appalling that after nearly 4 years the American people still have no answers. Anyone with common sense would reach the assumption that this is a blatant effort to interfere with the upcoming presidential election."
Furthermore, Hageman pointed out that voices advocating for an investigation into January 6th have quieted down ahead of an approaching inauguration. She mentioned Nancy Pelosi’s committee and media coverage: “Nancy Pelosi’s Jan. 6 Committee and the fake news media operated under the auspice that the day’s events should be investigated to ensure they never happened again but with an inauguration a few short months away, these voices have fallen silent on the IG report which will reveal the truth about bad actors influencing America’s future.”
This letter follows last week's subcommittee hearing on Weaponization of Federal Government where DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz testified that his report would be released publicly "in a couple of months."
